Council has received a Play Well Participation Grant from the Australian Sports Commission for the 'Play Your Way' project.

The aim of the Play Your Way project is to increase participation of 8-10 year old's within the participating sports. This project aligns with the Australian Sports Commission's Play Well Australia's Sports participation strategy which aims to ensure everyone has a place in sport.

The project includes a one day Come and Try event hosted by Council's Recreation Unit in November 2024 during school hours at Alexandra Park, Portland, for grades 3-4 students (aged 8-10 years old) from Portland, Narrawong, Bolwarra and Heywood.

There will be 5 sports offered at the Come and Try event, including Netball, Cricket, Hockey, Soccer and AFL.

Within the 6 months following the event, up to 50 participants (event attendees) will have the opportunity to register for one of the participating sports for free*.

*Providing they have not previously been a participant of the nominated sport.
