Glenelg Shire Council has been successful in securing over $4 million to undertake the following projects within the Local Port of Portland Bay. Works include the reinstatement of the Town Jetty, an extension to the existing Portland Bay Marina, an extension to the Trawler Wharf floating pontoons.

The first stage of the Local Port of Portland Bay’s Marine projects with the successful installation of the steel piles and sleeves prior to the start of whale season (1 May).

The next stage of works will occur towards the end of May which will see the arrival of the concrete pontoons for each of the 3 projects which will be transported from QLD and unloaded and towed into position.

Bellingham Marine projects timelines are still in place with expected project completion dates of mid to late 2021.

These projects were highlighted as major requirements within the ‘Local Port of Portland Bay- 2016 Marine Master Plan’ where significant consultation occurred with the Local Ports stakeholders. Further recent consultation surrounding the design of the New Town Jetty and Trawler Wharf pontoon extension also taking place.

The $1.5 million project to reinstate the Town Jetty from the state Governments Building works program will entail a 175 metre long floating pontoon which will provide all ability access and designated recreational fishing pontoons, seating and an expansive width of 4 metres for promenading and general leisure.

The $1.3 million project to extend the existing Trawler Wharf floating pontoons will provide dedicated berths and facilities to cater for predominantly the Southern Rock Lobster Fishing Industry that operate out of Portland. This project will provide 16 berths to the existing Trawler Wharf pontoons.

The $1.3 million project to extend the existing 70 berth Portland Bay Marina will provide an extra 34 berths which will continue to bolster Portland’s booming recreational fishing and boating industry. The wider Portland community and beyond will no longer have their bookings requests denied from the lack of available berths for short or long terms booking requests.

All project designs and documents are accessible via the latest plans library.

Construction is now complete for the Local Port Marine Master Plan works.  Thank you for your interest in this project.
