Glenelg Shire 2040

We’re developing a Community Plan to 2040. It's an overarching strategic plan to inform how we invest in community assets, plan future programs, and make our shire an enjoyable place to live, work and play. It can also help others identify how to invest so we grow our population and economy. It’s important you have your say so you can ensure that your community and ideas are top of mind.

Consultation has now concluded for this project. We will inform residents of when the public consultation reopens to submit feedback on the Draft Community Plan.

Feedback Received

From October 2019 until the end of February 2020, we received feedback from over 1,200 people at a number of face to face events as well as online.

We heard that the most important things to residents of Glenelg Shire include the natural environment, industry and education, and lifestyle options, amongst other things.

Review the findings from the consultations by reading the community feedback in the Document Library.

Next Steps?

Community Reference Groups have been established in townships across the shire, to work through the information we have heard from the broader community through community workshops, event pop ups, school visits and online surveys. This group will be working over the next 3 months to develop the plan for our future, written by our community. We can't wait to share the result with you!

The Community Reference Groups, after a brief period on hold, are now back working together (remotely, according to social distancing measures) to develop the Draft Community Plan and Vision.

If you haven't had your say, don't panic! The draft plan will be out for public exhibition, where members of our community will be invited to make submissions on the plan. We will keep you posted on when this will be.

    • Social connectedness and wellbeing
    • Transport and getting around
    • Council services

We have delved further into these themes in the Glenelg 2040 Discussion Guide.

    So what happens next?
The Glenelg Shire 2040 Launch Event was just the start of this important conversation for our future, and over the next six months we will be asking you what your vision for the Glenelg Shire 2040 looks like.

In partnership with the team from Conversation Caravan there will be a shire-wide roadshow, including listening posts, information sessions, pop-up stands at local events, plus an online consultation via the YourSay Glenelg website.

There will be plenty of opportunities to have your say on our community’s future.
