Consultation has concluded

UPDATE: The footbridge replacement works have been completed and the bridge will be open for use from midday Wednesday 03 May 2023. A contractor will be on site in coming months to enable full DDA access on the approaches at each end of the bridge. The date for these finishing works is yet to be confirmed.

A 2017 condition assessment of the Fawthrop Lagoon footbridge identified the necessity for replacement of the bridge within five years.

Works to replace the current foot bridge (Figure 1) will commence from Monday 17 April 2023. The works will include the removal of the existing structure, installation of bridge footings and trusses, and craning of the pre-assembled steel truss bridge. Full closure of the footbridge will occur during this time and partial exclusion to the Hood Street and Cliff Street approaches is expected for bridge assembly and footpath works.

The bridge is expected to be out of service for 3 weeks with some access limitations continuing after that time as rock beaching and DDA compliant approaches are completed. Council staff will work with the contractor to minimise the impact to the community as best possible during the works period.

The construction of a single span bridge (similar to Figure 3) will replace the existing structure.
