Council has been successful in securing $5 million from the Victoria Government through the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions as part of the $6.2M project budget to deliver the Portland Foreshore Community Pavilion.
A key facility for all of the community, this building is an integral part of the Portland Foreshore Master Plan. This two-storey facility will minimise the impact on green space on the foreshore whilst providing function and meeting spaces for clubs and the community, as well as the opportunity for a café and a retail outlet.
Council's Vision
Careful consideration has been given to the use of this facility and its integration into the existing foreshore landscape:
In consultation with DEECA, this location addresses the predicted sea level rise and impacts from changing coastal conditions for the life of the building (please see modelling imagery in the Photos section).
By utilising existing disturbed ground, this location minimises the impact to Portland’s stunning foreshore and its existing natural landscapes.
With the consolidation of two older buildings into one state of the art community facility, this will provide increased flexibility for a wide range of events and functions.
In addition to retaining existing greenspaces a large amount of green space will be returned to the community through the removal of the Portland Sport Fishing Club building.
The playground, barbecues and the recently constructed connecting paths will remain, with the pathways extended to incorporate the new facility.
Priority has been given to ensure that there is sufficient parking adjacent to the building to facilitate all abilities access to the function and club spaces.
