What is a playground communication board?
Playground communication boards are a large board with words and symbols to support the expression of thoughts, needs, wants and ideas for people who may have difficulty communicating with speech.

Playground communication boards are especially designed for people with a communication difficulty, but they benefit everyone, including people with low literacy or language barriers.
Why do we need playground communication boards?
We all love to chat, and conversation is an important part of creating belonging and connection enables inclusion, interaction and successful communication for all, not just those who are verbal.
How do I use the playground Communication Boards?
Logos and instructions for use are included on the playground communication board.
To use the boards you can point to the symbols to ask for, talk about, or direct activities. Then your friend, parent or care giver can use the symbols to answer or take a turn about something else. It is just like talking, but with symbols. If you are able to use verbal speech, you can still talk while pointing to the symbols.
Why have a QR Code on our playground communication boards?
The QR Code is on the board so users can scan the board and walk around the Play Space with the downloaded playground communication board on their personal device. There will also be a QR Code on councils’ website so caregivers can print or download the board before visiting the Play Space.
Can I give Council feedback on where I would like to see more playground communication boards?
Yes, Council would be grateful for your feedback to understand where there is further need for additional customised Playground Communication Boards in other locations across the Glenelg Shire.
