This project has now been completed.

Glenelg Shire Council will commence works to upgrade and extend the iconic Merino Stock Route.

The stock route, one of the oldest stock routes in continuous use was officially opened as a walking trail in 2008, and have been a popular exercise track for residents and visitors to Merino.

The route also features the historic artesian bore site developed as a swimming spot in the 1890s.

The upgrade works include improvements to culverts and drainage, upgrade to the trail surface, tree plantings and new signage.

The 1.4km trail will also be extended to the showgrounds to provide better linkages with the free camping site.

The Merino Progress Association has been successful in securing funding for new fencing along the trail with the old fence to be removed by contractors in the next few weeks.

This project has now been finalised.
