Share your thoughts on the draft Urban Tree Policy
Council's Urban Tree Policy has undergone a review following recent consultation with key stakeholders. It has been prepared in line with the 2021-2025 Council Plan and with recognition of the Glenelg Shire community’s dedication to the protection of established vegetation and planting of new vegetation.
Our community is passionate about its trees and relies on Council to ensure the maintenance and preservation of public trees for their long-term benefits. Trees contribute significantly to neighbourhood character and positively impact streetscape amenity. Trees also play an important role in reducing air pollution and stormwater flows, mitigating the urban heat island effect, and adapting our towns to climate change.
Urban trees provide a multitude of benefits to the community, the environment, and the local fauna. A visually appealing streetscape is attractive to both locals and visitors, while also offering many health and safety benefits. Street trees improve mental and physical health, act as a natural traffic calming buffer, and promote a community identity.

How can I share my thoughts on the draft policy?
Click on the feedback tab below and share your thoughts on the draft. You can also ask a question that will be answered privately. The feedback period will close on Sunday 5 May 5pm.
Adoption of the policy (either with or without modification following feedback), will take place during the Council Meeting in June 2024
