The community feedback period for the draft Plan has now concluded. Feedback is being reviewed and the final document is scheduled to be presented at the October 2025 Council Meeting.
Council invites community members to provide feedback on the draft Road Management Plan 2025.
The Road Management Plan 2025 sets out how Glenelg Shire Council manages and maintains its local roads and related infrastructure to ensure they are safe, functional, and reliable for all road users. It follows the requirements set out in the Road Management (General) Regulations 2016 and the Code of Practice for Road Management Plans 2004 and outlines how Council inspects, maintains, and services its road network based on available resources.
The Plan is a legal requirement under the Road Management Act 2004 and is designed to:
Ensure the local road network is safe and accessible,
Reduce risks for the Council in managing road assets,
Provide a clear, structured approach to road inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
It applies to all local roads listed in Council’s Register of Public Roads and defined in the Council’s Road Hierarchy. It covers a wide range of road-related assets, including:
Road surfaces and pavements (sealed and unsealed)
Shoulders, kerbs, and channels
Traffic islands and line marking
Signs, guideposts, guard rails, and barrier fencing
Drainage systems, such as catch drains and underground pipes
By setting clear standards and priorities, the Road Management Plan helps Glenelg Shire Council maintain a road network that supports safe and efficient travel for the entire community.
Our Focus: An effective organisation set up to deliver on our priorities
