To help inform and shape the draft strategy, Council engaged with our community, the tourism industry, and stakeholders by collecting insights, data, stories and experiences from locals, business owners, community groups, tourism operators, and visitors.
Following the initial engagement period a draft strategy was developed setting out a path for positioning Glenelg Shire as a welcoming, distinctive and sustainable destination, supported by five key focus areas:
Place, Nature and Cultural Experience
Sustainable Visitor Economy
Destination Awareness and Promotion
Industry and Community Partnerships
Access, Facilities and Visitor Readiness
The draft Strategy also included an implementation plan to guide Council’s work in a staged and coordinated approach across the five year period.
Community were invited to provide feedback on the draft during March 2026. Council thanks all community and stakeholders who were involved in the process. Council will now consider community input to finalise the strategy, which will be endorsed at a future Council meeting.
