Why is a Changing Places facility needed?

Without these facilities, people cannot leave their homes for any length of time. They must return home to have their toileting needs met or run the risk of infections if they remain in soiled continence aids.

Where will this facility be located?

It is proposed the Changing Places facility will be located on the foreshore, close to disabled parking and the All Abilities Play Space.

Where else are these facilities currently located?

Changing Places are located at the Melbourne Zoo, Melbourne Cricket Ground, Victoria Park, Ballarat, St Kilda Lifesaving Club, Shepparton CBD, shopping centres including Eastland. New facilities have been funded at Healesville Sanctuary, Werribee Zoo, Geelong waterfront. New facilities are being constructed in more shopping centres including The Glen.

Will this facility be accessible to families for changing babies?

The Changing Places is a specialised facility for people with disabilities with high support needs. Alternative toilet facilities are provided for other members of the community.

How will the facility be maintained?

The facility will be maintained as part of the Shire Council’s regular maintenance and cleaning program.

Will this facility be open to the public at all times?

It is proposed that this facility will be available to those with a Master Locksmith Access Key (MLAK).  Carers and family members can apply for a MLAK key.  For further information refer to:  https://www.disabilityaccessconsultants.com.au/mlak-key/
